How do Maori celebrate Matariki? By Mattia

How do Maori celebrate Matariki?

On Matariki it is a Maori New Year and is a Maori Tradition.

They wake-up early in the morning and they gather firewood. They have a feast and sing a waiata for the people that have passed away. They also welcome the 7 sisters and do a haka.

During Matariki people spend time with their whanau and have a feast. They eat yummy food like kaimoana. They do all sorts of things.

When it’s Matariki, they do Arts and Craft. They build a kite and then they fly it. When it is Matariki whanau like to spend time together and do the activities.

Matariki is important to Maori and is a special time to see the 7 sisters and retell their Myth.
