Matariki By Junior

How do Maori celebrate Matariki?

Matariki is a Maori tradition. Maori people celebrate Matariki because it is the Maori new year.

The seven sisters come at June every year. The seven brightest stars are also called the seven sisters .

Some food they eat is kumara and hangi and kiamoana. Family come together and have a bbq. They do the haka and sing Maori songs and they have a festival. They have fireworks and they crave wood.

Over all Matariki is about spending time with your family and looking after each other.
