How Moari celebrate Matariki? By Zee

Maori celebrate Matariki by spending time with whanau and it's also the Maori new year.

Maori people talk about the myth. The myth is about the seven brightest stars called Matariki. Matariki comes in June. People believe Matariki is the mother of the other six sisters surrounding her.

During Matariki whanau have kai. They eat kumara, kaimoana and bbq.

Maori people sing Matariki songs and do the Haka. They do arts & craft like poi making, weaving flax and kite making.

Matariki is a Maori new year celebration when whanau spend time together.
