Matariki by Jazzlyn

Matariki

Matariki is a Maori tradition. Matariki is the Maori new year. Matariki is a big celebration for Maori.

They do a little waiata and cook some delicious food like mussels, bbq, buttered kumara, or they might do a big feast.

During Matariki people spend time with whanau. People might do weaving and a haka or they might make kites.

Matariki is a special celebration and is also known as the Maori new year celebration. The stars of Matariki were formed about a 100 million years ago. That's only 1/50th the age of our sun.
